Project Skydat – AWD Datsun 120Y with a RB30DET

Published in engineswapdepot.com

This project started with a Datsun 120Y being stripped down to bare metal and the floors cut out. Then the owner found a Nissan R32 and removed the entire AWD drivetrain along with the bottom half. After a lot of cutting and several test fittings the two halves were welded together. The engine was then upgraded to an OS Giken RB30 with forged internals and a large Garrett GT45/47 turbocharger built by RB Motorsport. The combo is capable of producing 1,200 horsepower but has been tuned to 1.5 bar (21.7 psi) or about 700 horsepower. With help from an OS Giken OS88 sequential transmission the car was able to reach 10.0 sec quarter-mile. It will be interesting to see how much faster it can get considering how much power is still left.
