1942 Dodge Power Wagon with a Cummins 4BT
Winslow Bent from Legacy Classic Trucks stopped by Jay Leno’s Garage to show off a custom project. The project started life as a 1942 Dodge WC63 which was a six-wheel drive, open cab troop transport which saw duty in WWII. After it made its way back to the US it was decommissioned from the US Air Force. When Winslow found it all that was left was the chassis.
Winslow and his team got started by chopping the frame behind the rear wheel off. Then the built a custom bed with a custom fuel tank in the front of the bed. On top of the military chassis went a classic Dodge Power Wagon cab. Under the hood sits a 3.9 L 4BT Cummins turbo diesel which Winslow estimates produces around 120 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. They also upgraded the transmission to a five-speed synchronized transmission. That doesn’t sound like a lot of power for a 8,000 lb truck but considering this truck has three differentials with 5.83 gear ratio it is plenty.
