Snapper’s Caterpillar Buggy
This Caterpillar hot rod was created as a tribute to the builder’s Grandfather who was an excavator. The builder had fond memories of operating those Caterpillar machines with his Grandfather. The builder had always wanted to build a hot rod using heavy machine parts and received his starting point after his Father offered him a 1928 Studebaker Commander he was no longer interested in.
The Studebaker Commander body sits on a 1996 International 9200 chassis with a custom Z’d rear. The front grill is off a 996 front end loader. The engine is a 732 ci (12.0 L) CAT C12 inline-six diesel which produces 430 horsepower and 1,650 lb-ft of torque. Connected to the engine is an Eaton Fuller ten-speed transmission and Freightliner Airliner rear. The front suspension is a custom air suspension.
The videos below follow the build process and show the owner going through the ten gears.
