LeMons Mazda 787B Replica with a 12A Rotary
This is a Mazda 787B replica built by Speedchimp Racing for the 24 Hours of LeMons. The team built the replica around a Porsche 914 which hadn’t run in 10 years. Powering the car is a carbureted Mazda 12A two-rotor engine. I think the team did a good job building the body to simulate the original. Since this was a LeMons build they used whatever supplies they had such as plywood, lumber, expanding spray foam, and aluminum to make the aerodynamic body panels. They also switched the driver’s position to the middle of the car. LeMons is one race series that rewards creativity in projects and Speedchimp Racing has already won a Organizers’ Choice Award for this build.
