Mike Whiddett’s Four-rotor RX-7

Many people know Mike Whiddett’s incredible RX-7. I have followed it since it was revealed in 2008. What I didn’t realize is we have never featured it on ESD. That ends today with Mike debuting the latest version of Madbul.

Although most of the newest version’s changes are cosmetic, Mike’s 3rd gen Mazda RX-7 revolves around a four-rotor 26B built by Pulse Performance Race Engineering. These are the same guys who built the six-rotor monster we have featured before powering a Mazda RX-4. Mike’s engine features a custom PPRE centre and end plates, custom chrome-moly crank, lightened and balanced high-compression RX-8 13B-MSP Renesis rotors, and Mazda 3mm seals. All this is good for 538 whp and a rev limit at 10,750 rpm.

After receiving factory sponsorship from Mazda, Mike eluded to building another motor with “major gains.” Does this mean a turbocharged engine? A turbocharged 26B has the capacity of 1,000+ horsepower. We will have to wait and see.
