The New King of V8s

Published in engineswapdepot.com

GM released the numbers on the new 5th generation LT4 and it destroys everything GM has previously made. The engine has been SAE-certified at 650 horsepower (485 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm) at 3,600 rpm.

457 lb-ft just off idle
500 lb-ft @ 1,500 rpm
625 lb-ft @ 2,800 rpm
592 lb-ft @ 2,500 – 5,400 rpm

That means just slightly over idle, this engine puts down more torque than most cars do at full RPM. The LT4 is the same size as the 6.2L LT1 and will find it’s first home in the 2015 Z06. It shares the same bore and stroke as the LT1 but uses low compression pistons to allow for supercharging. I expect to see a lot of fifth-gen engines being used in projects when GM starts selling crate versions.
