Custom 1970 Challenger with a 1,000 hp Hellcat V8 and Viper Chassis

Ellsworth Racing created a custom 1970 Challenger called “Highway Star” using their talents and Mopar parts from several eras. The project started with a 1997 Dodge Viper GTS that suffered serious fire damage. Instead of scrapping it, Ellsworth Racing removed the damaged body and kept the chassis. Over that they installed a 1970 Dodge Challenger body which they widened by four inches to fit the Viper’s wheels. Ellsworth Racing needed to stretch the Viper chassis 13-inches to fit the Challenger wheelbase. In the engine bay they swapped a supercharged 6.2 L Hellcat V8 producing 850-900 hp to the wheels on E85 fuel. The motor features an upgraded supercharger, dry sump system, and custom mounts, headers, and oil pan fabricated by Ellsworth Racing. Being the Hellcat motor is a triple-disc clutch, T56 six-speed manual transmission, and Viper differential with upgraded axles. You can watch the project’s progress in the build playlist.
