Comp Cams 1969 Camaro Convertible

Comp Cams 1969 Camaro convertible rebuilt by V8 Speed & Resto

Paul “Scooter” Brothers is the co-founder of Comp Cams. In the 1970’s he raced a 1969 Camaro convertible in the NHRA Super Stock. Unfortunately it was sold but in 1998 Comp Cams purchased another 1969 Camaro RS convertible and rebuilt it as a tribute to the Super Stock Camaro. Then in 2016 Comp Cams trusted V8 Speed & Resto to refresh their Camaro celebrating the 40th anniversary of Comp Cams.

The Camaro was previously powered by a NASCAR-spec SB2 small-block V8. V8 Speed & Resto installed a 454 ci (7.4L) LSx V8 built by Butler Performance. The motor features a RHS aluminum block with Lunati rotating assembly. On top are RHS heads with Comp Cam valvetrain and LSXR intake manifold with a 102 mm throttle body. The motor produced 690 hp (514 kW) and 619 lb-ft (839 Nm) of torque. Behind the motor is a TCI 6x six-speed automatic transmission and Ford 9-inch rear end.

V8 Speed & Resto also upgraded the Camaro’s handling. Up front they installed a Heidts Pro-G front subframe with tubular control arms, Viking coilovers, and Wilwood six-piston brakes. In back they installed a Heidts four-link suspension with Wilwood four-piston brakes.

The interior received modern bucket seats, Dakota Digital gauges, Billet Specialties steering wheel, and a Vintage Air AC system. Since the completed restoration, the Camaro has been seen at SEMA, Rev’n Rods Tour, Car Craft Pro Builder Shootout, and Muscle Car and Corvette Nations where it scored 997 out of 1000.
