Custom Toyota Corona with a 1UZ

Custom 1968 Toyota Corona with a 1UZ-FE V8

Southern California builder Mitch Allread is responsible for turning his daily-driven 1968 Toyota Corona coupe into what you see here. He originally designed the car for the Silver State Classic Challenge but after completing it in 2004 it has never competed. Mitch combined a lot of different racing influences such as hot rods, sports cars, and dirt track super-modifieds.

The Corona body has been chopped and Mitch removed several inches from the pillars. All the glass has been replaced with lexan and a custom spoiler was also built out of lexan. They body sits on a custom tube-frame chassis with a full roll cage.

Mitch sourced a 4.0 L 1UZ-FE V8 and four-speed automatic transmission from a 1992 Lexus SC400. In the back he installed a Speedway Engineering quick-change solid axle.

The front suspension uses upper and lower unequal A-arms with Carrera shocks and AFCO springs. The rear suspension is a three-link with a Watts link also using Carrera shocks and AFCO springs. Steering is controlled by RGP manual rack-and-pinion system.
