Matt Frater’s 1986 Toyota Truck with a Mid-Engine Twin-Turbo LSx V8
Matt Frater has owned his 1986 Toyota truck since high school. It has come a long way thanks to Matt’s skills. In the factory engine bay is a 16-gallon tank holding E85 fuel and three radiators. In the back of the truck Matt installed a 5.3 L LSx V8 destroked to 4.8 liters and two two VS Racing 62 mm turbochargers. The motor features Summit Racing rods and pistons, BTR Truck Norris camshaft, chromoly pushrods, and Holley Hi Ram intake manifold. It produces 619 hp and 517 lb-ft of torque on a Holley Terminator X Max ECU. Matt paired the V8 to a G86 six-speed transaxle from a Porsche Boxster S. The transmission uses a twin-disc clutch, Kennedy Engineering adapter plate, Wavetrac differential, and G50-style axles. View more photos and specs at Holley’s article.
