Darkside Developments’ AWD VW Caddy with a 2.0L TDI Races Nürburgring
Darkside Developments and their AWD Volkswagen Caddy made the trip from the UK to Germany to visit the Nürburgring. The team went with the goal of setting the “unofficial” lap record with DannyDC2 behind the wheel. At the end of the day the Caddy set a full lap of 8:27 and BTG (bridge-to-gantry) of 7:58. Darkside Developments built the panel van with a turbocharged 2.0 L TDI (CUAA) inline-four capable of 356 hp (261 kW) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque. Slide Motorsports converted the van to AWD using a seven-speed DSG (NZS) transmission with a Wavetrac limited-slip differential and 2015 Tiguan rear differential. The Caddy also benefits from KW Clubsport Golf coilovers, Audi TT control arms and hubs, and Audi A3 Quattro rear subframe. The brakes were upgraded with Brembo six-piston calipers with 380 mm rotors in front and Golf R32 calipers with 310 mm rotors in back. You can view the van’s full specs on the project page.
