Driving the Murena 429GT by Intermeccanica

Published in Video

When Charles Schwendler and Joe Vos set out to create the world's fastest and most luxurious shooting brake, it was going to be so exclusive that it wouldn’t even be available anyone but themselves. They ran sports cars, but wanted something more practical for their weekends away in the mountains – so they created their own sporting station wagon which was made by Intermeccanica. Having built two examples of their menacing-looking shooting brake, Intermeccanica persuaded Schwendler and Vos to build a few more, so they decided to unveil their car at the 1969 New York Auto Show, where they supposedly took 200 orders. But in reality just ten Murena 429GTs were made, all of which survive, except one. Here we tell the story of the Murena 429GT and take a test drive, courtesy of the Isle of Man Motor Museum.
