The whole event was becoming more and more serious: the early years of the Paris-Dakar Rally

This 1997 documentary on the Paris-Dakar Rally up to that time might be a little rote, focusing largely on the individual winners for each class and the year-to-year changes to the rally (rather than delving into, say, the colonialist roots of the rally or the challenge of putting on said rally and actually running it – if you understand French and are only interested in the ’82 rally, there’s this), but it more than makes up for that with pretty gnarly footage of vehicles tackling the rough terrain, on-board video, and snippets of interviews with the competitors.
