As we continue to mourn the untimely loss of builder, racer, personality, host and all-around gearhead talent, Jessi Combs, she’s come up in conversations and references all over the place. And a thing that we’ve come to realize is that many of you may not have had the good fortune of a conversation with her. And we say it that way because she was always so…accessible. She’d take the time to talk with just about anyone who was sincerely interested in what she was doing, how she was doing it and what it’s like to be an ultra-talented woman in a still-male-dominated industry/culture/lifestyle.
So, when we came across this uncut interview by the Brothers Hoon, we thought you’d appreciate it. No, there’s no car footage. Yes, it’s just Jessi sitting there. But think of this video in this context: imagine you’re having lunch at a diner with Jessi Combs, out there in Wendover, Utah, during Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats. You’d be talking about that for years, afterward, right? Of course, you would. And this is probably the closest thing to that.
You can hear her voice in a conversation with the guys off-camera. You can hear her laugh (which, btw, is one of the best things in all of car-dom). You get her opinions on all kinds of stuff – including her thoughts on good friend, builder and accomplice, Cristian Sosa. An added bonus.
Anyway, let this thing play in the background as you browse the Hemmings classifieds or whatever it is you do online. You’ll be glad you did. If you even wondered for a second why her loss is such a big deal, this video should answer those questions…
