The board at the International Motor Racing Research Center will tackle the enduring theme of “The Cultural Turn Meets the First Turn,” examining “Writing Motor Sport History” at their fifth annual Michael R. Argetsinger Symposium on International Motor Racing History. The keynote speaker will be Dr. John Heitmann (University of Dayton, The Automobile and American Life), with other presenters to take part in a panel discussion on the topic.

The symposium is a perfect chance for scholars, researchers and historical writers to gather and present their work related to the history of automotive competition. This meeting is put on by the International Motor Racing Research Center located in Watkins Glen, New York, the Society of Automotive Historians’ International Motor Sports History Section, and the Vehicular Culture Area of the Popular Culture Association. The symposium will take place November 8-9, and the location in the Watkins Glen area hasn’t been determined yet. More information is available at www.racingarchives.org, where you can find a tentative schedule and review pictures of last year’s gathering.

The staff at Lime Rock Park and the Vintage Racer Group (VRG) have announced that the VRG will join the Vintage Sports Car Club of America (VSCCA) in co-sanctioning the Historic Festival 38 at next year’s show. The non-profit VRG is run by racers and focuses on putting forth efficient race events during the year, from The Jefferson 500 at Summit Point in May to the Turkey Bowl, also at Summit Point in November. The VSCCA holds nine events throughout the year, including three at Lime Rock Park.

The combined effort from these two vintage racing organizations will attempt to make next year’s event the premier vintage race event on the East Coast. Historic Festival 38 will take place next Labor Day Weekend from September 3-7 and will feature over 200 vintage and historic racers in Lime Rock Park, Connecticut.
