Auction Alert: Bid on a Scout II, 4-4-2, and Maserati Indy before they’re gone

Today’s auction closings offer a reliable and rugged International Scout II Traveler with a Midas touch, an Oldsmobile 4-4-2 Holiday coupe from New England, and a stateside rarity from Italy in the form of a Maserati Indy. International’s rugged sport utility vehicle saw its last year of production in 1980, the year this one was built, marking the end of a nearly two-decade run. This Scout II Traveler was a Midas Edition, in which the Midas Van Conversion Company teamed up with International Harvester to produce only 298 examples from 1977 to 1980. The Midas Edition included shag carpet, brown plaid interior highlights, and swivel seats. The Traveler was powered by International Harvester’s 345-cu.in. V-8 and a A727 TorqueFlite three-speed automatic. Other features and options that stand out include running boards, a roof rack, and functioning air conditioning.

This first-generation 4-4-2 is a restrained resto-mod that keeps its original character while boasting some upgrades in the engine, suspension, and brake systems. Some of the updates include a powerful 455-cu.in. V-8 that was professionally built and modified with aluminum cylinder heads and other upgrades. This 4-4-2 has also received a 10:1 quick-ratio steering box for improved and responsive feel and a four-wheel power disc brake conversion. Presently located in Connecticut, the car is said to have minimal rust as it came from a dry climate, and all vital sheetmetal is reported to be original. The stunning paint work was done in 2016.

The low-slung Indy saw a low production run from 1968 to 1975, with only 201 having the 4.9-liter engine. An alternative to the two-seat Ghibli, the Indy was a four-seated “fastback” that used unit-body construction. This Indy has seen 15,579 miles since its restoration, and still has its numbers-matching engine, mated to a ZF five-speed manual transmission. The only aftermarket exterior features are the fog lamps with everything else appearing as it did from the factory. The interior is believed to have replaced leather upholstery, as well as carpeting and headliner. All gauges are functioning and properly lit with the speedometer converted to mph markings.
