Steve Hingtgen, founder of Vintage Trailer Supply, has opened a new distribution center and showroom in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in response to a growing market. To celebrate the new center, Vintage Trailer Supply is hosting a grand opening in the form of a three-day festival.
The festival will provide attendees with tours of the new showroom, live music, art shows, beer tastings, and food trucks. Founded in 2000 in Burlington, Vermont, Vintage Trailer Supply has kept most of the business online; the showroom will be the company’s first step into retail stores.
The festival is scheduled for September 13-15 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. For more information, visit VTSGrandOpening.com.
This year’s Bloomington Gold Corvette celebration in Charlotte, North Carolina, will honor a recently deceased member of the Corvette family. While the inventor of the Corvette was Harley Earl, and the man who made the car into an American icon was Zora Arkus-Duntov, the man credited with “saving the Corvette” was Jim Perkins.
Perkins began his career at GM sorting parts in a warehouse, quickly working his way up the ladder. Next, Perkins moved over to Toyota, becoming an instrumental figure in the launch of the Lexus luxury division. After successfully launching Lexus, Perkins was invited back to General Motors to be Chevrolet’s general manager. While General Manager, Perkins increased truck sales, pushed the company to many motorsport wins, reignited pride in the workforce, and perhaps most notably, saved the Chevrolet Corvette from its imminent death in the early 1990s. Perkins has been honored for this act time and time again, getting inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame in 1999 and later into the Bloomington Gold Great Hall as well. Perkins died at age 83 this past winter and the organizers at Bloomington Gold plan to pay tribute to him at the upcoming Charlotte event.
The event will take place on Friday, October 11, at the Bloomington Gold Charlotte Corvette event at the Hendrick Motorsport Complex in Charlotte, North Carolina. For more information, visit BloomingtonGold.com.
