By the time you read this, our own Quain Stott and his epic Southeast Gassers Association will have made their prime-time cable debut on Discovery’s “Moonshiners.” Full disclosure: since we write these things in time for you to read them on Thursdays, we’re actually sitting here in the shop, warming up the flatscreen in preparation for the new episode on Wednesday – so, we haven’t seen it yet.
Now, while this is most definitely an endorsement of all things Stott, we can’t say the same for the series named after one of our favorite topics: we’ll leave that to you, dear reader. But we’re fans of muscle cars, vintage performance and – like Quain’s series, the year 1967 – as one of the greatest eras of drag racing ever, so we feel compelled to bring this one episode of this one show to your attention.
While we’re at it, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention some of the speculation around this thing: this episode may or may not be a testing ground for an entire show based on Stott’s SEGA. Could that be true? It sure would be great to see an era-correct gasser and Super Stock racing class as its own cable show series, as long as it doesn’t go down the long, dark rabbit hole of…well, let’s just call it ” reality show nonsense,” shall we? And if Quain has anything to do with it, we’d feel safe speculating that it’d be worth watching.
If you haven’t seen the episode yet, here’s a quick clip of what we’re all gathered around the flatscreen waiting to debut in a few short hours:
