The mission of the Federation Internationale des Vehicules Anciens (FIVA) is to preserve, protect and promote historic vehicles and related culture. Since 2013, the group’s Motorcycle Commission has staged an annual Motorcycle Week, and from rather humble beginnings the event has expanded to include classic bike activities in 12 countries for 2017.

Though called “Motorcycle Week,” this year’s scheduled events stretch over roughly five weeks and range from judged shows to meets and rallies, all centered on vintage motorcycles. Most take place in the month of June, with the exception being the FIVA World Motorcycle Rally, scheduled for May 24-28 in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region of southeastern France. Registration for this touring event (the one most directly tied to the FIVA) filled in January, perhaps signifying the growing popularity of vintage motorcycles worldwide.

Other 2017 FIVA Motorcycle Week events will take place in Andorra, Colombia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy. Norway, Slovenia, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. On these shores, a pair of Antique Motorcycle Club of America National Meets (in St. Paul, Minnesota and Dixon, California) are included in the FIVA’s list of motorcycle week activities.

Founded in 1966 as an international body to promote and guide the global interests of the historic vehicle movement, the FIVA today includes member organizations in over 62 countries, representing the interests of roughly 1.5-million historic vehicle enthusiasts, on two wheels and four. On the automobile side, the FIVA works closely with the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), while on the motorcycle side, the organization works with the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) to promote the interests of its members. All FIVA groups encourage the safe use of self-propelled vehicles, more than 30 years old, on-road for the benefit of their owners, dedicated enthusiasts and the general public.
