Hemmings Find of the Day – 1976 Land Rover 101

Published in

Well-documented 1976 Land Rover 101 for sale on From the seller’s description:

According to military records, chassis no-96100152 was supplied to 100 Regiment Royal Artillery on 01/07/76. It remained on standby until 19/08/83 when it was drafted into service as a F.A.C.E (Field Artillery Computer Equipment) vehicle. The F.A.C.E 101’s are very rare and were normally released from duty in superbly well preserved condition due to the fact that they were kept in dehumidified storage to protect the very valuable on-board computer systems. This vehicle would have been full of computer equipment with room for one operative inside to provide coordinates for the 105mm Howitzer guns that were being towed. On 21/08/92 it was deployed to 307 Field Battery Royal Artillery for a 4 month exercise where upon it was returned to 100 Regiment Royal Artillery. From there it served it’s final duties with the 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery through to 20/03/97 when it was sold at military auction. It remained in storage until 2004 when I acquired it. Due to very light usage from new the condition today remains superb and original without a trace of corrosion. According to several experts it’s supposedly the best preserved example in existence. The engine and gearbox are military reconditioned and over the years numerous items such as, steering joints, gearbox linkage bushes, propshafts, brake cylinders, oil seals, doors, front seats and rear seats have been replaced. The canvas hood is a NOS military item with a fume curtain fitted. A new set of correct military fitment 9.00×16 Michelin XCL’s have just been fitted at great expense (not in photo’s). All parts fitted are correct military surplus items. Included in the history file is an extremely rare sales brochure and a full military specification and deployment document. With an unladen weight of just 1835kg, an overall length of 4.1m, powered by the famous all aluminium Rover V8 these vehicles are much faster and agile than their imposing stature suggests.
