Oh how we miss the days when there was a glimmer of hope that Saab would survive bankruptcy and rise again like the Phoenix concept from the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. Even as late as 2014 there was cause for optimism when NEVS, the holding company that collected the remnants of Saab, briefly re-started production of the 9-3 sedan in Trollhattan.
Alas, it was not meant to be. The 9-3 lives on in a fascinating zombie state as an NEVS-branded 9-3 converted to electric power for the Chinese market, and that 2014 run of cars turned out the last of the Swedish Saabs. We learned in July that the very final car would be sold at auction, and now we have the details of the sale.
Bilweb Auctions AB, a Swedish-based online car auction company, will sell off the 2014 Saab 9-3 Aero Turbo4 starting on Wednesday November 6th as part of its 2019 Final auction. The pre-auction estimate is 350,000 – 450,000 Swedish Krona, or about $35,000 – $45,000, remarkable as the price when new was 289,000 SEK.
The car itself has a mere 70 kilometers on the odometer and still has plastic protective covers on the door sills. Plus, as the auction listing states, “if you’re a fan of the dark side of Saab, the Night Panel, it’s of course in place.” To see the auction listing (with extensive photos) and register to bid, check out Bilweb’s auction page here.
