The organizers at the National Automobile Museum invite you to join them this Thursday to talk about a unique but iconic piece of automotive history, The Lincoln Highway.

Speaker Jim Bonar became interested in the Lincoln Highway as a young child in Green River, Wyoming, watching traffic pass through town on the route. Jim became a charter member of The Lincoln Highway Association in the early 1990s and he now serves as the group’s national board member for Nevada.

The half-hour talk will take place Thursday from 1:30-2:00 p.m. and will include a Q&A session with refreshments. It’s free to Museum members, included with paid admission, otherwise $5 per person to attend the talk. The National Automobile Museum is located in Reno, Nevada. Members of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) are going to retrace the route of the first U.S. Army Transcontinental Motor Convoy across the USA, along the Lincoln Highway. The MVPA 2019 Transcontinental Motor Convoy will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the original 1919 convoy route by driving from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco, California, arriving over a month later.

Over fifty military vehicles are expected to make the 3,200-mile journey, with an additional fifty vehicles making a portion of the trip. All eras of military vehicles, from WWI through modern day, will be represented. The current roster includes cargo trucks, Harley-Davidson WLA motorcycles, staff cars and jeeps to later model M939 5-ton cargo trucks.

The Convoy organizers welcome the public to witness this trip across the U.S. by meeting the Convoy as it travels through their area.

The convoy is scheduled to begin August 11 and finish on September 14. The full itinerary and daily schedule, complete with lunch stops and overnight stays, are available at MVPA.org.
