“You shine together:” the story of the famed Compton lowrider club the Majestics

Lowriding is commonly depicted as a Mexican-American or latinx pasttime, and while it certainly grew out of those communities, it has become a worldwide phenomenon with adherents as far away as Sweden, Russia, Brazil, and Japan. Closer to home, though, lowriding has also become a vehicle of expression for black car enthusiasts as we see from “Sunday Driver,” a 2005 RockStar Games documentary on the Compton-based Majestics, California’s oldest black lowriding club, which tells the story of the club and of lowriding in general in the club members’ own words.
