A hosted social hour was held after the day’s rally followed by an awards ceremony for Friday’s Trophy Run. This day of rallying is a separate preliminary event to the Great Race, which began at Mission Inn Avenue in Riverside at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 22. The Hemmings Ford speedster finished — in the Sportsman’s class with the grandfather and grandson previous Grand Champion team of Dave Reeder and Sawyer Stone taking the overall win for the Trophy Run with a time off 1.62 seconds off of perfect. Past winners Beth Gentry and Jody Knowles finished second with a time only 3.34 seconds off perfect.

The Schmidt’s new competition car, found on

Probably the best story of the day did not occur on course. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schmidt brought a vintage Riley speedster to this year’s race, only to blow a head gasket during their practice on Thursday. Unphased, they searched through’s online classifieds and limited their search to within 50 miles of Riverside, California, and were able to locate, purchase, and have delivered to their hotel a 1972 Mercedes 350SL. After installing a magnetic pickup and their Timewise speedometer from the Riley, they were able to make the official start on Saturday.
