Restored 1969 Volvo 164 for sale on Hemmings.com. From the seller’s description:
This pristine, professionally restored 164 model is, as it would have looked the day it left the dealership. The highest quality 164s are rarely seen on the open market, and seldom in this outstanding condition. The owner, a retired academic professional, is reluctantly selling this “time capsule,” having treated it like a member of the family for many years. The car has always been garaged, never driven in the winter, waxed regularly and maintained religiously. It was inspected this week, prior to listing for sale, by a Volvo service technician to confirm the mechanicals were in good operating order.
This has always been a northwest car, purchased from a Vancouver B.C. dealership and maintained by one owner, a Shaughnessy family, for over 30 years. Never smoked in and with a no pets policy, a relative recounted how the car had been mostly used to drive by her mum to local shops, thus the low mileage (91,000). The second owner was a long-time Volvo admirer who completed an extensive restoration. The car maintains it original grey colour and comes with a large assortment of spare parts, many of which are items no longer available or in circulation. Included also is an extensive collection of manuals, advertising literature and copies of road tests.
Personal issues require the car to be sold, and the owner insists it go to a good home. The car attends many local shows and events, plus Sunday drives in the country and picnics in Victoria and the Cowichan Valley. The car recently won a “People’s Choice Award” at a Volvo Club of BC show in Victoria 2016.
Maintenance records are available for inspection The current owner was extremely proud of a long and extensive search for stock original driving lights, on the car now. The car maintains its original Volvo 8-Track radio, but a concealed Alpine digital unit delivers 21st century sound. The car attracts a crowd whenever it is parked.
The Volvo 164 was Volvo’s flagship quality car first offered in 1968, designed for the more prestige and luxury-oriented segments. Branded the 164, with the figure “6” denoting a powerful, reliable and durable six-cylinder engine. When it comes to the combination of smoothness, torque and effortless high-speed capability over a sustained period of time, there are few engines that can match this in-line six.
You will not find safer or more solid car. It was bigger than others offered in the model range, with more legroom in the rear, great for families. The car’s lines were similar to the famous the 144, but with a slightly different front end and hood (bonnet). The grille is upright and almost square and one might notice the diagonal Volvo bar after an absence of more than 20 years.
If you are looking for an extremely safe, rugged, beautifully maintained car, this is for you.
