Very straight `56 Custom Royal D-500 (HEMI) sedan. Coral, charcoal, ivory tri-tone. Equipped with Powerflite auto. trans. (pushbutton), tinted windshield, radio, heater. Standard steering and brakes (non-power assisted). Original headliner, rear seat upholstery/carpet/door panels. I believe it has been repainted once, prior to my ownership. Minor touch-up on the charcoal portion since then. Third owner. Owned 8 years. Have spent approx $14K (receipts) which includes:


-New, sleeved wheel cylinders and Master cylinder and all linings replaced, part from White Post Restoration in VA.

-Rebuilt Powerflite A.T.
-Rebuilt 4-bbl Carter WCFB carburetor
-New radiator
-Rebuilt gas tank
-New fuel pump, hoses, belts
-Rebuilt front suspension
-New coil springs and leaf springs built to correct specs for the (stiffer suspension) D-500
-Rebuilt Detroit U-joints
-New windshield weatherstrip
-Rebuilt starter and generator
-Pertronix ignition system (still have dual point breaker plate if desired to restore to original)
-Rebuilt speedometer
-New stainless exhaust system. (super quiet mufflers)
-5 Firestone P225/75 R15 radials. Spare has never been on the ground.
-5 Seat belts
-Rechromed rear bumper/guards
-Reupholstered front seat and front carpet in original material
-Timing chain, gears, etc.
-Quad bar wheelcovers
-New heater control valve
-1956 YOM California license plates
-Owner’s Manual and Factory Service Manual plus supplemental D-500 service letters
This car drives very well. Quiet and smooth and tight. Runs very cool due to new radiator and complete flushing of inside of block when I first acquired it.
The 1956 Dodge D-500 is a very special car, valued at a 35% premium over the identical standard (i.e. non-D-500 model). Basically, the package consist of:
-Hemi-head, solid valve lifter, higher compression (9.25 vs. 8 to 1) engine.
-Chrysler New Yorker suspension. Heavy duty springs, steering knuckles, sway bar, 30% larger center-plane brakes, wheels. Car sits 1.5 ins. lower than standard Dodge.
