Classic Car Club of America announces new Full Classics

At its recent annual meeting in Reno, Nevada, the list of approved Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) Full Classics grew by three series (or automobiles), including the 1916-’29 Roamer (all models), the 1930 Buick series 60, and the 1934 Studebaker President. Effective immediately, these models are now welcome to participate in all CCCA activities.

The CCCA defines the term Classic as “a “Fine” or “Distinctive” automobile, American or Foreign built, produced between 1915 and 1948. Generally, a Classic was high-priced when new and was built in limited quantities.” That said, the CCCA wants those in the hobby to know that the club is open to all with a passion for such automobiles – including those who do not own a Classic car.

The organization is also taking steps to demystify the process of awarding Full Classic status to an automobile or series. Its membership is encouraged to submit suggestion for consideration to the CCCA Classification Committee, which conducts a thorough review of a car’s merits. In addition to the above-mentioned rules of price and limited production, factors such as engine displacement, custom coachwork, and the availability of luxury accessories like power brakes or automatic lubrication systems also weigh on the decision.

Once the CCCA Classification Committee reaches a decision on an automobile or series, its findings are given to the CCCA National board for approval. Should the board conclude that an automobile is suitable for consideration as a Full Classic, the model or series is then presented to CCCA membership for commenting. Comments are gathered and reviewed before the CCCA National board ultimately votes to approve (or disapprove) a model or range. From start to finish, the process can take longer than one year.

In 2015, the CCCA announced the largest expansion to the Full Classic category in its history, expanding the boundaries for consideration to automobiles built as early as 1915 and as late as 1948, compared to the original bylaws, which included only models built from 1925 to 1942. On May 11-13, the CCCA will also hold a joint meeting with the Antique Automobile Club of America (its first-ever cooperative meeting) at the Auburn Auction Park in Auburn, Indiana.
