Published in engineswapdepot.com

Volvo Trucks recently broke two world records with their custom Iron Knight truck. To prove the strength of their new dual clutch transmission the team built a custom truck to break the world record for the 500 meter and 1,000 meter. The truck features a modified 13.0 L D13 inline-six diesel installed behind the cab. Together with four turbochargers and a re-tuned ECU the engine produces 2,400 horsepower and 4,425 lb-ft of torque. The D13 comes form the factory in 12 different power levels ranging from 375-500 hp and 1450-1850 lb-ft of torque. Behind Iron Knight’s engine sits Volvo’s I-Shift dual-clutch 12-speed automatic transmission which is found in the FH models. The 9,920 lb truck was able to reach 500 meters in 13.71 sec at 81.580 mph (131.291 kph) and 1,000 meters in 21.29 sec at 105.069 mph (169.093 kph). Also while testing the truck had a top speed of 171.498 mph (276 kph) and reached 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds.
