1965 Volvo 122S Amazon four-door sedan for sale. From the seller’s description:
I have owned this Amazon since October of 2014. I purchased it out of Southern California with the intention of restoring and driving it. It has since become my daily driver when the weather allows it (I don’t drive it in the rain, I don’t drive it when the temperature is above 95F since it doesn’t have AC). It’s an absolute blast to drive and receives compliments wherever I take it.
Taken to bare metal. Painted in the original black color. Paint is very good, although is has a few blemishes here and there (some rock chips on the bottom of the rear quarters, some minor flaws in the paint.
Bumpers are original to the car but were re-chromed by a local shop here in Tucson in 2015. They still look new.
Upholstery completely redone by professionals in Kentucky and Arizona. New carpet kit from Holland (installed 2016), fresh headliner. I have installed seat belts in the front and have installed the top bolts to allow for seat belts to be installed in the rear without removing the headliner. The dash is painted, and I include a plastic dash cap if the new owner prefers to have a more traditional look.
Engine is a B20 with dual SU carbs. Runs very well and does not smoke, knock or burn oil. The person who sold me the engine in 2015 told me he had rebuilt it to run in his wife’s Amazon wagon. She lost interest, the car was parted out. I do not have a heater or choke cables installed in the car at the moment, however both items are included in the sale. They’re unnecessary in AZ.
Transmission is a 4 speed with no overdrive, also known as the M40. A local shop went through it and declared it healthy. No issues there either. Clutch was installed new in 2015. Drive shafts are balanced, recently done locally.
The Amazon has an aluminum radiator (3 rows) that keeps it cool, no matter how hot Tucson decides to get. I have converted the temperature gauge to take an electrical sending unit.
Wheels and tires appear new. 16 inch wheels from Enkei. I pulled them from another Amazon I own. The suspension is from VP-Autoparts, small drop in the springs and KYB shocks. The car handles great. Rear drums are new and I rebuilt all brakes in 2014. New E-brake cables.
The car is rust free. Floors had some small holes in the rear floors boards but the bodyshop that painted the car did not feel that replacement floor panels were needed. I ended up stripping and sealing the floors with POR-15 to avoid any issues.
This has been a reliable and fun Amazon but with an older VW and another Amazon to my name, I need to make some room. I encourage any potential buyer to schedule a time to come drive and inspect the car, or to have a local shop go over the car. As with any classic car, things can break or be overlooked.
